These contests are open to professionals such as chefs, food editors, etc. Contests for culinary students are also listed on this page.

Some of these contests are open to amateurs but do not prohibit professionals from entering in their rules. For many, entrants must be employed by a culinary institution, restaurant or foodservice organization in order to qualify.

WHITE CASTLE "CRAVE TIME COOK OFF" RECIPE CONTEST

DESCRIPTION

Create and enter an original recipe containing at least 6 White Castle Sliders as an ingredient. You may use Plain, Cheese or Jalapeno Sliders, and must incorporate all the meat, onion, and buns – pickles and cheese are optional. Include a photo of your dish with your recipe.

ELIGIBILITY

Open to legal residents of the continental United States and DC who are age 18 or older.

PRIZES

Grand Prize: A trip n Autumn 2017 for winner and one guest to Columbus, Ohio to visit White Castle headquarters, the White Castle test kitchen, and attend one cooking class. Trip includes round-trip airfare (or rmileage reimbursement winner resides less than 200 miles from Columbus, OH); hotel room accommodations and meals in Columbus, Ohio (max trip ARV $2,140). Winner will also receive  some White Castle swag (ARV $100); and if the grand prize winner lives near a Castle, he or she will receive a free Crave Case of Original Sliders every month for a year; if winner does not live near a Castle, certificates frozen Sliders will be substituted (ARV $260; total ARV $2500 max).

2017 SUMMER POTLUCK CHALLENGE

Submit a quick and easy appetizer, side dish, or dessert recipe suitable for sharing at a summer potluck. There is a limit of 10 ingredients. Write clear directions and include a photo and a short description or history of the dish (no more than 100 words).

PRIZES

10 Finalist Prizes: Exclusive feature in Recipe Lion's upcoming Summer Potluck Recipes compilation eCookbook on RecipeLion.com; a signed copy of Recipe Lion's newest printed cookbook; and all finalists’ recipes will be posted on RecipeLion.com – and promoted in their daily newsletter, as well as on their blog and social media.

How do you restore, reinvent, reuse, or repurpose items in your environment? Create and enter a Step-by-Step, Photo, or Video Instructable featuring a before-and-after transformation. SUTTER HOME BUILD A BETTER BURGER® RECIPE CONTEST

DEADLINE

July 31, 2017

DESCRIPTION

Create and enter a burger recipe, expressed in 600 words or less. A "burger" is defined as a grilled patty formed of ground meat or other ground foods, and served on a bread product or alternative wrappings such as lettuce. It may include condiments and toppings, all in or on the bread product/alternative wrapping. No side dishes or garnishes are allowed. Size your recipe to make 6 burgers, or either 12 or 18 sliders. Recipes must be able to be completely prepared in 60 minutes or less.
You must choose one of the sponsor's wines as a pairing for your burger. Cooking tips and photos are optional. Previous non-winning entries to this contest may be updated and resubmitted.
Entries will be divided into 5 regions. Four semi-finalists per region will participate in a regional cook-off. The winner in each region will participate in the final cook-off.

ELIGIBILITY

Open to legal residents of the 50 United States and DC who are age 21 or older. Previous finalists and winners are not eligible to participate.
Any person who holds directly (or is employed by a holder of) an alcohol beverage license or permit issued by a federal, state, county or local agency, and all family members of such person, are not eligible to enter.

PRIZES

20 Semi-Finalist Prizes (4/region): 2 professional baseball game tickets in Regional Semi-Finalist Cook-Off city and one $200 pre-paid debit card for required burger ingredients. Semi-Finalists living within 300 miles of the Cook-Off city will receive a $200 pre-paid debit card for transportation costs; those living more than 300 miles from the Cook-Off city will receive airfare for 2 to the Cook-Off city and 1 night hotel accommodations (ARV $1,000).
5 National Finalist Prizes (1/region): Trip October 4-6, 2017 for finalist and guest to attend the Finalist Cook-off. 38th NATIONAL OYSTER COOK-OFF

DEADLINE

DESCRIPTION

Submit your recipes that feature fresh oysters. Recipe must use a minimum of 1 pint of oysters or 1 dozen fresh oysters in the shell, and prep and cooking time should total no more than 1 hour. 3 finalists per category will participate in a cook-off October 21, 2017 in Leonardtown, MD.
There are 3 categories:
   • Hors d'oeuvres
   • Soups & Stews
   • Main Dishes.

ELIGIBILITY

Open to all, but you must provide your own transportation to the cook-off if you are a finalist.

PRIZES

9 Finalist Prizes: Lodging and a reception will be provided the night before the cook-off. Transportation to the event, cooking utensils and ingredients (except oysters) are the finalists' responsibility.
