JUNIOR COOK CONTEST LIST

Welcome, Junior Cooks! This page lists contests that persons under 18 years old may be able to enter. Some of them are recipe contests, and others want an essay or a video. Students who are 18 will find some contests here that they may enter, but can also enter some contests on the DEADLINE page.

Each contest has different age requirements for entering the contest, so check the "ELIGIBILITY" line of the summary to see if you can enter that one. Some contests you must enter together with an adult.

If there is no mention of age limitations in the rules of a contest we will list them on this page. If we find out from the sponsors that they want adults only, the contest will be removed.

For this monthly contest, enter an original recipe fitting the monthly theme, written in stepwise rows. Include a well written description of the recipe, one or more clear corresponding photos, and the hashtag for the month's theme. You are encouraged to share the URL of your submission on their Facebook page as well.
The theme for this month is "Mango Recipes". Enter your best recipe using the #MangoRecipes hashtag in your introduction.

DOOR COUNTY COFFEE 4TH ANNUAL RECIPE CONTEST

DEADLINE

May 31, 2017

DESCRIPTION

Submit any type of recipe made with Door County Coffee. Ground coffee, brewed coffee, flavored coffee or non-flavored coffee — any way that you use Door County Coffee as an ingredient in a recipe qualifies. A short statement about what makes your recipe wonderful is optional, as is a photo (but photos are appreciated so much they get you into a drawing for a extra prize).
This contest is a 2017 World Food Championships Preferred Qualifier.

ELIGIBILITY

No restrictions are given.

PRIZES

First Prize: A 1-Year Door County Coffee Supply of winner's choice including Full-pot Bags, Single Serve Cups or 10oz bags, plus two Door County Coffee Stoneware Mugs, two Door County Coffee Stainless Steel Travel Mugs and a travel tote bag.The winner will also be an automatic Preferred Qualifier for the 2017 World Food Championships in Orange Beach, AL in November 2017 with $1300 of fees & travel expenses covered: the registration fee will be covered by Door County Coffee and a stipend to help cover travel expenses will be provided upon arrival at the competition. THE 9TH SOY SAUCE RECIPE & STORY CONTEST

DESCRIPTION

Enter an original recipe that uses soy sauce, makes 4 portions, and can be completely prepared in one hour. Accompany your recipe with a photo of the dish, and a postcard-sized piece of paper with either a story, drawing or other expression of memories associated with the recipe.
Your recipe may be based on your country’s cuisine, or it may be an original recipe based on  Washoku (traditional Japanese cuisine) or other tasty food you have encountered in Japan.

ELIGIBILITY

Must be living in Japan, but not born in Japan. Can be either a naturalized citizen or a foreign citizen living in Japan. Must communicate in English or Japanese. No age restrictions mentioned.

PRIZES

Gold Prize: Plaque and Bonus Prize (¥100,000).
2 Silver Prizes: Plaque and Bonus Prize (¥50,000).
7 Bronze Prizes: Plaque and Bonus Prize (¥30,000).

SILVER DINER'S KID'S FOOD CRITIC CONTEST

DEADLINE

June 4, 2017

DESCRIPTION

Get your parents to help you make and submit a video where you share your idea for a creative new menu item for the Silver Diner Kid's Menu. Be as specific as you can, and use healthy ingredients whenever you can. The video can't be longer than 10 minutes, but it doesn't have to be professional — a smartphone video will do. You don't have to film the entire cooking process.

ELIGIBILITY

Open to children age 5-12, with written consent from a parent/guardian.

PRIZES

12 Finalist Prizes: Opportunity to participate in Kids’ Tasting Party with Chef Ype at Silver Diner in Rockville, MD on June 12, 2017. No mention is made of whether or not transportation and/or lodging will be provided for the event.

2017 "GET WILD WITH WILD RICE" RECIPE CONTEST

DESCRIPTION

Submit your original wild rice recipes for the 7th annual wild rice recipe contest. Recipes must use ¼ cup or more of precooked wild rice per serving and 2 or more sponsor products from Crystal Farms®, Gold'n Plump®, Green Giant®, Minnesota Beef Council, Minnesota Pork Board, and the Northern Canola Growers Association®.
You many enter in these categories: Appetizers, Salads, Soups, Entrées, Sides, Desserts. Preference is given to recipes with more than 2 sponsor products and recipes that are easy to demonstrate (recipes requiring stove top/microwave cooking preparation or no heating).

ELIGIBILITY

Open to legal residents of the 50 United States and DC who are age 18 or older, but those under 18 may enter if they have parent/guardian consent.

PRIZES

Finalist Prizes (up to 16): Winners will be credited in the 2017-2018 wild rice recipe brochure and receive 3 pounds of wild rice, a signed copy of the Canola Gourmet cookbook AND winner's choice of: two admission tickets to the Fair OR one wild rice t-shirt and cap OR a signed copy of Saga of the Grain (ARV up to $36).
Grand Prize: A $500 check.
People’s Choice Prize: A $250 check. Chosen from finalists by public vote (one vote per voter).
WFC Qualifier Prize: One finalist will receive a Golden Ticket (qualifier) into the World Food Championship, but participation at the WFC will be at finalist's own expense. A $500 award will be given to the finalist after the WFC event provided: qualifier competes in the World Food Championship; makes at least one dish using wild rice at the championships; provides a picture from the championships; and completes a phone interview about their experience with Minnesota Cultivated Wild Rice Council staff for publication.

APRICOT POWER RECIPE CONTEST

Request a sample of Apricot Power's SuperFood Mix, telling them your idea for using it. Then create and submit a recipe in one of these three categories: Blended Drinks, Baked Goods, and Most Creative Recipe. 38th NATIONAL OYSTER COOK-OFF

DEADLINE

July 31, 2017

DESCRIPTION

Submit your recipes that feature fresh oysters. Recipe must use a minimum of 1 pint of oysters or 1 dozen fresh oysters in the shell, and prep and cooking time should total no more than 1 hour. 3 finalists per category will participate in a cook-off October 21, 2017 in Leonardtown, MD.
There are 3 categories:
   • Hors d'oeuvres
   • Soups & Stews
   • Main Dishes.

ELIGIBILITY

Open to all, but you must provide your own transportation to the cook-off if you are a finalist.

PRIZES

9 Finalist Prizes: Lodging and a reception will be provided the night before the cook-off. Transportation to the event, cooking utensils and ingredients (except oysters) are the finalists' responsibility.
3 First Prizes (1/category): $300.
3 Second Prizes (1/category): $200.
3 Third Prizes (1/category): $150.
Grand Prize: $1,000 in addition to the winner's First Prize.
