JUNIOR COOK CONTEST LIST

Welcome, Junior Cooks! This page lists contests that persons under 18 years old may be able to enter. Some of them are recipe contests, and others want an essay or a video. Students who are 18 will find some contests here that they may enter, but can also enter some contests on the DEADLINE page.

Each contest has different age requirements for entering the contest, so check the "ELIGIBILITY" line of the summary to see if you can enter that one. Some contests you must enter together with an adult.

If there is no mention of age limitations in the rules of a contest we will list them on this page. If we find out from the sponsors that they want adults only, the contest will be removed.

THE COOKSTOCK RECIPE CONTEST

DEADLINE

March 20, 2017

DESCRIPTION

Submit your recipe for a one-dish, healthy meal prepared in a single cooking vessel such as a pot, skillet, Dutch oven, or slow cooker. If your recipe is adapted from another person's recipe, include information about its origin (original cook or cookbook) and tell how you "doctored" the recipe.

ELIGIBILITY

Open to legal residents "across southeast Michigan" but has also been announced as "across Michigan." No age limits given. Amateur cooks only.

PRIZES

Grand Prize: Winner will spend a day refining culinary techniques and expanding gastronomic repertoire alongside Chefs John Vermiglio and Josef Giacomino of Grey Ghost, working with the chefs to create and prepare an exclusive six-course menu for four. The meal and chosen libation pairings will be served to the winner and 3 friends. Winning chef will also prepare the winning dish on WDIV Local 4's "Live in the D" on April 27, 2017.

2017 HOME BAKING ASSOCIATION EDUCATOR AWARD CONTEST

DESCRIPTION

Submit a your plans for a baking lesson or a baking community service program or adult or teen leader skill training. Baking community service program may include “Bake for Family Fun” month, Bake and Take Day, bake sales or community service baking programs. The focus of your entry must be baking education and its interdisciplinary benefits to young people.
Your entry should include a 1 page summary and supporting information for the 5 judging criteria: Baking Emphasis/Execution and Interdisciplinary Skills; Creativity; Pre-Evaluation/Testing; Post-Evaluation/Testing; and Community Service.

ELIGIBILITY

We think this is for United States only. You should be a professionals or adult and youth leader and volunteer who teaches baking skills in: Classrooms (Pre-K, elementary or secondary); Libraries; Public or private organizations; Community youth programs, out-of-school camps and clubs; Families; Youth teaching peers or younger ages.

PRIZES

Top entry: $1,000 cash and an all-expense paid trip for two to the Home Baking Association Annual Meeting to present a summary of your award-winning project.
Special recognition awards: may be awarded for Best Community Reach, Best Hands-on Baking Activity, Most Creative.

CREATE IT MAINE RECIPE CONTEST

DESCRIPTION

Create an original side dish recipe to complement a chicken-dish entrée. You should focus on Maine grown ingredients to the best of your ability. Write up the recipe in 500 words or less and submit it with a photo of the prepared dish.
Five finalists will compete in a live cook-off in South Portland, ME.

2017 HEALTHY KIDS COOK-OFF

DEADLINE

March 31, 2017 10pm ET

DESCRIPTION

Enter a recipe that is either an Original Creation (you totally made it up) or a Healthy Recipe Makeover (you made a traditionally unhealthy recipe better). The recipe must contain at least two vegetables and should have no more than a minimal amount of sugar, if you use it at all. You must be able to completely make the recipe in 60 minutes or less.
This contest is divided into 3 categories Pre K (Parent & Me); Elementary School; and Middle School. Four finalists from each category will compete in the LIVE Healthy Kids Cook-Off National Competition on May 6, 2017 in Columbia, Maryland. Pre K cook with their parent at the competition.

ELIGIBILITY

Residency in the United States is implied. Child should be in PreK - Middle school. The entry form includes a section for parental permission.

PRIZES

2017 CALIFORNIA STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL BERRY BLAST OFF RECIPE CONTEST

April 7, 2017 12pm PT

DESCRIPTION

Enter your original recipe of any type that features the use of strawberries without baking in the preparation (use of grill, fryer, stove-top permitted). Use fresh ingredients as much as possible. The recipe must serve five and must be able to be prepared and presented within 60 minutes.
Five semi-finalists will participate in a cook-off on May 9, 2017 in Oxnard, CA; two finalists will go on to compete May 20 in a final event in Oxnard.

ELIGIBILITY

Open to all, but transportation to events and prizes is not provided.

PRIZES

5 Semi-Finalists: Four complimentary tickets to attend the California Strawberry Festival in Oxnard the weekend of May 20-21, 2017 and a complimentary 2017 collectible poster.

2017 MARYLAND SHEEP & WOOL FESTIVAL'S GRAND LAMB COOKOFF

DESCRIPTION

Submit a recipe using at least one pound of American lamb, any cut. Any technique may be used (that you are able to reproduce in the cook-off). There are two divisions: Adults (16 +) and Youth (ages 8 -15).
Six finalists from each division will compete in a cook-off May 6, 2017 at Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival’s Grand Lamb Cook-Off. They will present only the submitted dish to the judges. No side dishes are allowed.
